Mentoring

Alamo Arts Academy is more than just a curriculum. We want to make work-based learning accessible to all, so we've created a custom program to do just that!

Alamo Arts Academy's "Come and Make It" program provides students with practicum education to prepare them for careers in an array of fields and industries. Come and Make It is our unique approach to work-based learning by equipping students with real world experience outside the classroom in a purposeful way.

Together with our community partners, students will be given opportunities to jump into working with industry professionals for production work, use their skills to produce projects for small businesses, and put together meaningful assets for deserving nonprofits in their community. Not only is this work-based learning concept furnishing students with unlimited environments to hone their skills, it is a chance to work with real life clients on exciting projects. The result is prepared students who have paved a successful pathway for higher education and successful careers.

EVENTS & PROJECTS

Student engagement is paramount in today's learning environment. Alamo Arts Academy is dedicated to providing real-world practical experience to reinforce the skills students are learning in the classroom. Through our Come and Make It practicum program, our students gain access to special events and projects in the community through which they can get involved and challenge their skills. This can be anything from working with small businesses and organizations, community events, and city-wide initiatives. Take a look below to see examples of what our students are doing!

Check Out some of our latest practicum events

The San Antonio Missions invited our students to come learn what it takes to work on the production team for a game. They got a chance to shadow the professionals and try their hand at broadcast camera work, and work from the AV booth.

Our Alamo Arts Academy interns filmed local nonprofit, Girls on the Run's, Fall 5K in San Antonio. They got a chance to try out different film rigs while capturing the excitement and energy of the day. Check out this highlight video from their footage. Then watch our behind-the-scenes video here!

Alamo Arts Academy students from across the city came together to capture the summer bootcamps held at Harlandale's Makerspace. Students got to work with professional-grade cameras, lighting, audio equipment and drones. Check out their final edit!

We brought students from three area schools to film and photograph a Fiesta event for local nonprofit, Chromosome 18. Our students got to experience live production with video and audio set up for interviews. This is the highlight video from their footage!

Local Industry Partners

We've teamed up with movers and shakers in our great city to ensure students have access to top educational opportunities. Our mission is workforce development that results in job creation and an economic stimulus to keep San Antonio as a major market for multimedia production and beyond.

INTERNSHIPS

Each year, we offer local college students the opportunity to intern with our organization, TRL Productions. Internship roles in AV Production, marketing, design and photography are available annually or per semester. A select number of students are chosen to work with our team, gaining on-the-job training and invaluable experience to catapult them into the industry of their choosing.

MENTORSHIPS

Launching Soon!

Launching next year is our nonprofit’s new concept, TRL EDU. “TRL E-D-U” is a mentorship program bringing working professionals together with students enrolled in AAA to provide unique support and encouragement to explore higher education and potential careers in an array of areas of interest.

Students flourish when they can be curious and ask questions, and what better format than time with a mentor? More information will be released as this exciting program becomes available.
